The lack of skilled recruits at every level consistently tops the list of concerns for STEM, web and technology businesses. This skills challenge affects nearly every business sector in our area and nationally.
The skills challenge hinders growth, affects profitability and innovation and can even put business viability and succession planning in doubt – for micro businesses, SMEs and corporates.
Data for West Sussex shows that the working population is ageing and that whilst digital industries are currently forecast to grow rapidly in some towns, they are expected to shrink in others.
What do we do with the information we have? Is education keeping up with changes in the digital skills needed by the future workforce?
The Coastal West Sussex Partnership is collaborating with the Sussex Learning Network and always possible to find some local solutions to this long-term problem by getting businesses and education professionals in the same room to look at practical ways we can all work together to help influence local change in our schools and colleges.
We invite forward-thinking digital and creative sector business leaders to join us at this inaugural event to agree some real outcomes to influence and help our educators (and their students) to be smart about the design of digital skills training.
