Scale-Up East Sussex is a new programme to support local companies that have the potential to grow faster and be more successful than they have ever been before. Working with ambitious companies throughout 2019, we will identify barriers to faster growth, work out how we break down those barriers, and unleash the growth potential.
There is one programme open to any qualifying East Sussex business, another focused on enterprise in Newhaven, and this which is focussed on the built environment sector.
The three pilots have a strong research and development remit, so that we can better understand what support businesses in East Sussex need most in order to scale quickly.
Applications are welcome from East Sussex businesses in the following categories who have been trading for at least five years, and have at least five employees.
Architects, architectural technologists and interior designers
Civil and structural engineers
Construction and building services professionals and facilities managers
Surveyors, planners and housing specialists
We want to work with businesses who are ready to scale, and have the drive to develop and improve their products, services, growth strategy and communications.
In return for access to your time and energy over an intensive 4-month period, you will have access to a range of specialists who will work with you to move your business forward.
Successful applicants will need to indicate availability of nominated staff members between 1st April – 31st July 2019.
The first-stage application window will be open in Spring 2019.
Qualifying businesses will then receive an invitation to a short telephone call, which will be used informally assess business readiness and potential impact of the programme. An objective scoring criteria will be used to select the final shortlisted businesses.
The highest scoring 12 applicants will then be invited to undertake a business healthcheck, after which a bespoke support plan will be created.
The term “scale-up” is used here to refer to companies that have high growth potential. If you want to read more about the research behind the growing number of scale up projects across the country look at the work of The Scale-Up Institute.
The focus for this programme is to identify companies that have been trading for at least five years already, and have the potential to grow by 20-30% each year for the next few years.
