SPOTLIGHT: ROADWAYS
Roadways (Hailsham Roadways) is a regional leader in highways construction and maintenance. Their in-house delivery capabilities include carriageway recycling reconstruction, asphalt surfacing, civil engineering, traffic management, groundworks, low carbon and recycled road materials, cycleway and footway construction, and town centre improvements. They aim to find sustainable ways to connect people from footways to major highways.
As part of the Scale Up East Sussex Built Environment programme, the always possible team supported Roadways to pioneer their prototype low-carbon cement, leading to the launch of a materials innovation centre.
Roadways continues their sucess and were recognised for their great work by being presented with the Sussex Company of the Year award 2021.
The company has been based in Eastbourne since 1966 and are proud of their local community links and drawing upon local talent. Around one third of the staff live in Eastbourne and they celebrated 55 years of business in 2022 .
Recently, Roadways was contacted by Lewes District Council to provide a quote for repairing The Promenade in Peacehaven, Brighton. Initially, the project was to fill potholes in the compacted concrete road with crushed stone. However, Roadways recommended a better plan that would improve the road for residents and road users while costing less and causing minimal disruption. The outcome was a successful project that provided a more effective solution to the problem.
