WHAT IF…? NIGHTS CAN BE THE CATALYST FOR SOME BIG CHANGES
What do Minecraft, Communist China and turning down well-paid jobs have in common?
The Possibility Club WHAT IF…? popped-up in Worthing on 11th October, and continued the pattern of some curious people meeting in a dark room to explore the big questions. The thread we discovered was the necessity of autonomy in how we learn and work.
Declan asked us what if computer games were taught in schools. We differentiated between game playing and games design, but acknowledged that we are all gamers of some kind – and that we learn quickly through play and problem-solving. Declan broke down the building blocks of creative learning: peer-review, passion, play and projects – and how classrooms can be a place in which technology is used to teach all life skills, and games are a major way of structuring that.
Alex asked us what if we measured personal success by quality of experience. She reflected on the contrast of her time living in both the UK and China – and whether we really know how much autonomy or freedom we have, and how much we are prepared to sell. We explored the narratives we create about compliance and the value of adventures, and why.
Carolyn asked us what if every new business model was purpose-driven. We looked at drivers in business and individual enterprise, and whether there is a tipping point in thinking happening in industries with a growing reliance on SMEs and corporates who need to offer more than a salary in order to retain the best staff, the widest customer base and have a genuine stake in the world around them.

Going to Richard’s What If events allows you to step back and explore some truly inspirational ideas with good people in a safe, friendly environment.
It can be the catalyst for some big changes, it can ignite your passion and help you to re-imagine what your business is all about.
Or, it can simply be a thought provoking evening with really smart (and lovely) people. Very much enjoyed last night.
